Patient’s pathologies

The use of IntraOperative NeuroMonitoring (IONM) devices in ENT surgery is essential for thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, parotidectomy and mastoidectomy due to the important risk of facial and recurrent nerve lesions responsible for facial and vocal cord paralysis.

Stimulation & Monitoring

IONM allows for the location of the facial nerve during the surgical approach thanks to ElectroMyoGraphic (EMG) collection for several muscles such as the Frontalis, Orbicularis Oculi, Orbicularis Oris, Mentalis and vocal cords.

Stimulation with a monopolar probe will allow one to locate a nerve through tissue, whereas a bipolar probe will provide a refined search for a targeted nerve.

Application: thyroidectomy.

Thyroid surgery involves a recurrent nerve paralysis risk, responsible for vocal cord regulation. The use of a laryngeal tube equipped with an EMG electrode allows for the independent monitoring of the right and left vocal cords.

Before using the devices, please carefully read the instructions from the probe’s instructions manual.

Medical devices are health products which have, due to the European regulation, the CE 0459 marking (except the bipolar Y stimulation probe whose marking is ongoing).
